Geocaching #1

It was a rainy morning here Maryland, but that didn't stop us from our latest form of outdoor recreation: Geocaching. Geocaching mixes high tech GPS satellite receivers with hiking and treasure hunting. Our "treasure" for today was a Travel Bug. A Travel Bug is an item moved from cache to cache, with a unique tracking number allowing its movements to be tracked online. The one we scored today has traveled over 2,000 miles up and down the east coast. Tomorrow we will place it in its new temporary home atop a nearby mountain to be picked up by the next visitor to that cache.

Travel Bugs have even been to space aboard the International Space Station travelling over 300 million miles! See Travel Bug in space!. Our GPS is a Garmin GPS MAP 62 and is waterproof, which came in handy today. Although we did get a little wet today, we managed to get out of the house and spend some fun time together in the woods, which is always a good thing.
